![THROWBACK THURSDAY! THE BUILD.
Looking back on our build, which began in 2023... Johnny had dreamt up the idea of renovating 230 year old stone barns into holiday accommodation way back in 2018. Luckily, there was no interest from the council in preserving the old buildings when we enquired 10 years ago.
After three companies calling out to investigate the walls and foundations, with the hope of us underpinning the front walls, we were told there was no way to keep them. It was a sad day when they came down after many years of withstanding everything that nature threw at them.
We separated the stone, granite quoins, bricks and tiles. All these were reused in the build. Unfortunately most of the Blue Bangor roof tiles were unusable, but we have one full roof of them and it's lovely to see the old versus new tiles. I prefer the old! Some of the granite, stone and bricks still has moss on it. Preserving these materials was top priority for us and it was worth the effort.
If anything, having a modern, new build means we have superb a BER rating, the buildings are warm and airtight, and we know we won't be in for any surprises in the future.

![? Our namesake... The stone from this former castle was used to build stables on our farm over 200 years ago.
We've spent the last 4 years renovating and rebuilding them, turning them into five self-catering holiday cottages opening Fall 2024... ??
We sustainably used the stone, quoines, slate and brick from the stables, keeping the original size and aesthetic of the beautiful buildings as they are nestled comfortably in woodland with a courtyard to one side.
We look forward to welcoming our first guests in September!

🏰 Our namesake... The stone from this former castle was used to build stables on our farm over 200 years ago.
We've spent the last 4 years renovating and rebuilding them, turning them into five self-catering holiday cottages opening Fall 2024... 🗝🗝
We sustainably used the stone, quoines, slate and brick from the stables, keeping the original size and aesthetic of the beautiful buildings as they are nestled comfortably in woodland with a courtyard to one side.
We look forward to welcoming our first guests in September!
